My purpose is to share meaningful poetry that inspires readers to think, feel, and grow. I believe that great poetry, like literature, has the power to affect people's lives, and I am passionate about bringing readers some of the most influential, inspirational, and heartening work in this craft.
I grew up in the central Utah desert where my parents, siblings, and I were surrounded by the miniature Grand Canyon on the eastern side and castle-like mountains on the western side. I did not have many friends so I read a lot of fiction and watched many films. I was introduced to poetry by my 8th grade teacher, Miss Black. I started writing poetry then.
I was discovered in 2006 after writing poetry on my blog, Michael Parker's Journal. At the time, I was asked to join a country-wide, online poetry group and that experience helped me learn and develop my skills. Since then, I have been attempting to hone my craft and tell the story of my life and life's experiences through poetry. My first full-length book of poetry Divining the Spirits in the House of the Hush and Hush is about my experiences dealing with horrible chronic pain and suffering. Learn more about my book here.
I live with my wife and family (and a dog and a cat) on the western side of the Rocky Mountains along the Wasatch mountain range, just under an hour south of Salt Lake City. I enjoy reading great literature and poetry, watching suspenseful murder crime thrillers with my wife, and writing poetry.
